Attributing the aggressive conduct of men with testosterone would indicate that men with low testosterone level enjoy a better physical health than the ones with higher or even normal. Is this the truth? Let’s find out if the testosterone in your body is your friend or your enemy…
We all know that testosterone is responsible for a number of sexual functions in men. Apart from this sexual maturity, this important hormone affects the functioning of other organs of the body including muscle and bone development, overall energy levels, cardiac performance and functionality of the central nervous system.
Another aspect targeted by testosterone hormone is the behavior of men. While low testosterone levels are associated with depression and poor memory functions, increase testosterone level in the body signifies positive effects like happiness, enhanced vigor and feeling of well-being. But higher testosterone in body has also shown some counter-effects in the form of aggressive and violent behavior among men.

The common reasons for testosterone decline include aging, lifestyle factors, stress, and certain diseases of the hypothalamus, pituitary gland or testicles. This testosterone degeneration then ends up with symptoms like low sex drive, decreased erections, weakness, mood disorders, osteoporosis, contracting testicles, lack of memory retention, loss of muscle mass etc.
Moving back to our initial discussion that whether having lower levels of testosterone will make men much calmer and less aggressive? Unluckily this isn’t true. Why? It’s because men with lower levels of testosterone are more prone towards heart diseases, diabetes, obesity, osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s and depression. This deficiency is far threatening than mere behavioral changes resulting from testosterone excessiveness. Also athletes taking higher doses of testosterone supplements to increase the hormone level may suffer from cardiomyopathy, a condition of enlarged heart.
In conclusion, neither the excess of testosterone nor its deficiency is healthy. However, undergoing testosterone therapy to replace low testosterone for a normal level does not entail any negative consequences and is a safe way to go.
